First time out of the Greater Atlanta area with this group. Rhythm & Brews is a cool shotgun kinda club on a quaint little street with a few other clubs. It was a slightly rainy Friday, which can affect the turnout. Already making excuses, right? We still had a good turnout at this fine rock venue. Traveled up in JT's Odyssey with his cargo top for the guitars and stands and a little trailer basket in the back for some larger items. He took out the middle seats for the drums and amps. We listened to a performance of ours from St. Paddy's day that had a heavy guitar mix - recorded by Martay so go figure. We set up, along with the audio techs (2 of 'em) - big time! The club fed us a burger 'n fries (chicken tenders for Sam) and I eventually coerced a draft beer out of them. I think we sounded good; those rehearsals paid off. The U2 set was really well received, and the Van Halen stuff went over well of course.
My personal take is still to put a few more of the pop hits in there (Jump & I'll Wait, somehow with a keyboard track and a click for Sam, plus Mean Street 'cause it's a such a great groove that has a different kind of energy, or is it a different kind of truth?)
Martay is looking better - definitely on the mend. JT wanted us to play drums and bass solos. I didn't work one up but I just went for it. Used a flanger effect, because I think that's what Michael Anthony did on his solo. Need to listen to his solo to get some ideas. I kept it short. We rocked, and the set list was ordered to have the best songs at the end. We gave them a great show with Martay's incredible Eruption
wowing the guitar fanatics. As you can see, we had a lot of fun mugging for the shots. JT is talking about learning Happy Trails, the a cappella number from Diver Down which would make for a fun closing number.
