SWJ in Savannah - Middle of the Week Road Trip

Savannah International Trade & Convention Center

Met at the ol' storage space mid-morning, the 19th of February.  For this Wednesday sojourn, we had Scott Walker (SWB) with us.  More like he us with him; we road in his massive passenger van and pulled our gear in his ultra massive trailer.  You can stand up in that thing.  No stacking required!  Also along in my company was Brian Molin, Mark Letalien, and Dan Barker.  We were a fine force indeed.  We were playing at the SAVTCC in the massive ballroom.  We even had an opening act, comedian James Gregory.  I remember playing his album (vinyl) in my Penguin Feather days.  He's the self-proclaimed funniest man in America, with a trademark line of "It could be a law, I don't know!"  We were given red carpet treatment with a real nice surf ' turf hot meal, along with a generous salad and bread too!  Plus desserts.  Our own deluxe dressing room down the hall from the stage.  We had a good long wait to play.  One of those "hurry up and wait" nights.  Weather was breezy yet decent enough for an evening stroll along the scenic Savannah River.  What a view.

The gig was a 2 hour ordeal.  Lots of classic rock, a staple of Sweetwater Junction.  Many dance tunes as well.  The dance floor was full, although the crowd was noticeably thinner in the 2nd hour.  The client really loved us.  For my part, I brought the Stick and played it on a few numbers near the beginning.  We did a real nice and slightly slower version of Clapton's Wonderful Tonight that just felt incredible.  We tried to stay mellow in the beginning, for fear of being too loud.  Featured a decent amount of country tunes.  I think we did it right.  Drove back that night and we were spent, as can be expected.
